198 National Indicators, Any Improvements? As a council leader you are awash with data and performance statistics, 198 at the last count. The constant testing and measuring of local authority's performance and the resulting "top down" pressure on all public service providers to "improve their understanding of the needs of citizens and users to deliver outcomes that matter to communities" is tangible. Connecting Data With People"Even more analysis, just what I need" we hear you say. However, the fact is that all the statistics in the world will have no direct effect on services unless the service provider has the means to improve any weaknesses the data identifies. It's an obvious statement to make but we could not get away from the thought that underlying all these undoubtedly valuable statistics are real people, the citizens and users of public services. What truly matters is their experience of your services and their opinions. So how do you connect all the data and analysis with the needs of your citizens and service users? They have recognised that continuing performance improvements can only happen by fully engaging with the real people, the users, citizens and communities in a purposeful way to understand their demands, learn the lessons and deliver change.
