An Automatic Job Management System

All companies strive to reduce costs by making their processes quick, efficient and robust.  This firm of VAT consultants was no different and wanted a single system that could do all the necessary back office work automatically so that the consultants could concentrate on their clients.  Unable to find a suitable package on the market they asked MSC DataMan to develop a customised solution.

As always, we ensured that we understood how the users were going to use the system in real-life before starting any work.  Our solution was to take over and heavily modify a 5-year old Microsoft Access database to enable it to do the following:

• Keep a record of all contact details (clients, sub-contractors, etc)
• Record all information associated with each job
• Monitor the progress of each job
• Produce all standard documentation (letters, reports, invoices, etc) that each job required.
• Allow the standard document templates to be modified as required.

This was the most cost effective solution requiring only 3 days of MSC DataMan's time and enable the client to avoid extensive retraining costs as they were already familiar with the older database.  Within a few months the consultants decided to go on holiday as they didn't know what to do with all the spare time that had been created!
